Ljósleiðarinn (Reykjavík Fibre Network) to deploy Nokia DWDM solution to build a new nationwide Icelandic network for backhaul for ISPs, 5G and future mobile technologies.

Reykjavik, Iceland – Nokia today announced that Ljósleiðarinn will use Nokia’s DWDM solution to expand services on Ljósleiðarinn’s fibre network nationally. Ljósleiðarinn provides backhaul for network providers, including 2 out of the 3 national 5G mobile operators and are expanding to meet future service capacity and reliability needs.

The new compact, scalable and future proof DWDM solution will allow Ljósleiðarinn to optimise fibre resources as a high availability meshed DWDM core network while supporting 8 Terabits capacity day one with future upgrade capability of the network to 19.2 Terabits and beyond.

Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) will enable Ljósleiðarinn to enhance network capacity cost-effectively and sustainably by minimising operational expenditure with reduced power consumption and carbon footprint. Nokia’s solution will support Ljósleiðarinn to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and improve Return on Investment (ROI) while ensuring improved network capacity to meet future demands.
